Turkmenistan harvested more than 1 million tons of raw cotton

Although the cotton harvesting campaign is still underway, so far more than 1 million tons of raw cotton have arrived at the procurement center in Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan said.

Last year, Turkmenistan harvested approximately 1.1 million tons of raw cotton. This year, Turkmenistan intends to harvest 1.109 million tons of cotton from 500,000 hectares of cotton fields, the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan said.

The favourable weather conditions during the farming season helped Turkmen farmers get a good cotton harvest.

In Turkmenistan, cotton is sold through the national commodity and raw material exchanges, and payments are made to cotton farmers through various branches of the Bank of Daykhan, a national commercial bank.

Turkmenistan’s cotton is traditionally exported to Russia, South Korea, China, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Ukraine, Iran, Singapore and the Baltic States.
